Get ready for some excitement on the blog today as we tell the story of Mitch and Laurans wedding day!

I have photographed a LOT of weddings. A LOT of weddings. To this day, nothing has ever happened like the ceremony of Mitch and Lauran. There was a 20% chance of rain on their wedding day. I mean, 20% really isn’t enough to change all of your wedding plans at this point. I believe it had sprinkled a bit throughout the day but the plans were to still have the outdoor ceremony where it was supposed to be. Thirty minutes before the wedding starts and the guests begin to arrive. It is NOT raining. Fifteen minutes before wedding starts it is still NOT raining and about 225 guests have arrived and been seated. At the 4:00 ceremony time it had started to sprinkle but not too bad. At 4:05 the wedding has started. The grandparents are down the aisle. The parents are down the aisle. It is now 4:15 and the downpour of the century hits oklahoma city. It isn’t just raining folks, it is POURING DOWN RAIN. It is time for the bride to make her entrance and the father of the bride tells the planner, “we cannot do this wedding in the pouring rain. Move everyone in the barn immediately.” The coordinators, ushers and vendors all proceed to ask everyone to please move in the barn as quickly as they can.

I am not going to lie. It was a little chaotic. 225 guests. Umbrellas everywhere. Moving all 225 guests in the barn. Lauran was still hidden away in a side room waiting for her ceremony to begin. When she walked into her ceremony everyone cheered and I may have teared up. I was so proud of the guests at this moment! I mean, they could have been flustered or irritated at standing under umbrellas in the rain, or walking to and from the ceremony site to the barn or any other reason. BUT THEY CHEERED FOR LAURAN… clapping, laughing and hollering. I loved this moment for Lauran ;)

Their ceremony ended up being completely beautiful in every way but who would have thought a 20% chance of rain would turn into an all out downpour in just a few minutes?!?! After the ceremony was over the sun started shining and we had the most beautiful evening of perfect weather for the rest of the night.

I will say, this kind of thing is why we think that it is IMPERATIVE for you to have a wedding coordinator. When you have a wedding coordinator, these kinds of things fall on the shoulders of the planner to make everything go okay. I cannot say enough about the Embellished Weddings crew. They were calm, efficient, professional and happy about making the day go as stress free as possible for Lauran, her family and their guests.

The rain made for a good story but the real story is how beautiful their wedding was. Lauran had carefully chosen every little detail and handmade so many things herself. The end result was just beautiful.

To say that I come prepared for a wedding is a tad bit of an understatement… I have the most gigantic umbrella to cover my gear and a pretty awesome raincoat that I stole from my hubby ;)
