Annie HEARS!!

As most of you who have been following know, my best friends baby was born with a rare virus called CMV. We have journeyed with them thru a long year of staying in the NICU, tiny little hearing aids, doctors appointments, praying, laughing, crying, you name it. Abbey had asked me to document their journey of getting cochlear implants and when your best friend asks you (and even sometimes when she doesnt ask you….) you get followed around like you have the paparazzi behind you at all times. The cochlea is actually what takes sound and transmits the sound into an electrical impulse that your brain can read because your brain functions on electrical impulses. Annie is receiving a new cochlea which is actually like a new right ear. This device will actually take sound and change it into an elecrical impulse that annie’s brain can read, thus enabling Annie to hear and speak. We truly believe with all our hearts that all healing is from God. God’s hand of provision, healing and peace have marked every step of this journey with Annie over this last year. The first few pics are sweet little Annies surgery to implant the cochlea into her skull and the last few are the first time Annie hears sound! Here we are waiting in the hospital….

ANNIE HEARS!!
It was SUCH an interesting process to see the way the audiologist and therapist test all of Annies little sound waves. They had put a little moving/barking dog in a box on the wall in front of her and on her left and ride side about 10 feet away. After they got her attention to her direct front they would sound a tone in the box to her right about 10 feet away.

This pic of Annie looking to her right was the first time she heard the tone. Not gonna lie…. I may have shed some tears here.

This is Annies big sister Lainey, she was so excited for her baby sister!

After the audiologist did her testing they had explained that they were going to turn on the impant so that she could hear natural sound. They warned us that a lot of times babies cry when they hear sound for the first time because it is so shocking to them. It scared Annie at first until Abbey got to pick her up. Another interesting thing had happened shortly after this. Annie was getting used to hearing people talk and such and she let out a little babble and it scared her too. I havent really thought about Annie not really knowing the sound of her own voice. She was startled at first when she heard it but now she is babbling on and on like crazy!

This was Annies grandfather singing Jesus Loves Me to her for the first time. Such a precious moment!
