Sarah here… and here goes nothing…
Something I have thought about doing forever and talked about doing dozens of times but in some ways haven’t had the guts to do. Don’t worry its not that crazy, but to the blog stalker of all things photography it could be offensive (how is that for drama). I am about to “blog” an engagement session and only post one photo. But its not because there aren’t dozens of photos from this session worth sharing.. And not because Ryane and Justin aren’t the cutest and sweetest couple with a genuine connection. Because they certainly ARE! Instead, it’s in protest of how poorly most of us are digesting the images in front of us. How quickly we skim over the art of photography because it is everywhere and in our face in abundance. We have stopped giving weight to the individual photo. I think we are over stimulated and over saturated with images in our lives that we can’t/don’t pause and take in the beauty of just one photo. I am so struck by the way art changes the minute you take it out of the gallery… We stop giving space to each image, we certaintly don’t spotlight it individually and let it breath apart from the others on the wall. We slam dozens and dozens of photos down our throats through facebook, instagram, blogs, websites,etc. and I am afraid we are ceasing to appreciate the thing we “love”. Oh and I am definitely talking about me as much as anyone else. We as the photographers consume thousands upon thousands of images a year (and those are just our own) and that is why I am making myself pause with you to take in the beauty that is Ryane and Justin in just one quiet black and white image from their whole session. Because it is worth stopping and staring. That is if you made it through my soapbox to the image… (Don’t worry, this too shall pass and I will be back to posting loads of images that you will pause individually at to appreciate) :)
