I am elated to share this wedding with you, and even more excited to share the story! So Sarah and Adam, great friends of
our Taylor, were planning their wedding for June 13th and had hired Taylor to capture their beautiful day. Everything was in motion… decisions were being made and details getting nailed down. All the while the last thing these two cared about were the flowers,the venue and all the the details of the event we call a wedding. The only thing on their hearts and minds were to be married and spend the rest of their days with the one they loved. So a few weeks before Easter weekend which was also the week of a couples shower that their friends were throwing them, they made a crazy decision and changed EVERYTHING. They decided to elope in Sarah’s parent’s backyard and to keep it a total secret from everyone except for their immediate family. This is where I step in because Taylor already had a wedding in Tulsa for this new day and couldn’t make it. As much as I hate that Taylor had to miss capturing every detail of this day I feel so blessed that I got to be there to witness it.
With only a few weeks of prep they got the essentials.. By a miracle Sarah’s dress came in and Adam got his suit. Sarah’s mom and aunt switched dresses from her cousin’s wedding that was not that long ago. Sarah ordered her custom white Chacos that suit this bride just perfectly. They got Adam’s ring but there wasn’t even time to get a band for Sarah’s ring… and they did what they really wanted to do. They got married with approximately 20 people in a backyard only hours before their shower. So you have to understand what this means…
EVERYONE AT THEIR SHOWER HAD NO IDEA THEY WERE MARRIED!
It means that all day long friends were texting them wondering what they were doing and if they had plans later. Friends that they had been avoiding wedding talk for weeks and weeks to keep their secret. It means Sarah’s cousin had to run right after they cut their cake in front of family and change to rush over and help host the shower to keep up the charade that there was to be a wedding later in June, and as we snuck down the street to the gate of the party everyone was in for a HUGE shock.
When they showed up to their festive Mexican themed couples shower IN THEIR WEDDING ATTIRE people were stunned… not sure if they were about to get married right there in front of them or what was happening. And over and over again they got to tell their story. Those who were to stand as bridesmaids and groomsmen and close family friends celebrated with them this day that perfectly suited these two, knowing that it was never in their hearts to have the big wedding to-do. It was beautiful to witness the unfolding of a simple but powerful expression of covenant and love. Where two people made some really big decisions to do what was in their hearts and the spontaneous toasts and speeches that ended the night, where almost every person stood and expressed their love and affection for these two special people had everyone including me (the photographer who just met these two that day) in tears. It was absolutely perfect. The whole day was a huge reminder of what a wedding day is all about. In keeping all the details simple I really feel like Adam and Sarah made the most extravagant expression of love and “wedding” I have been apart of. There was no escaping the heart of what was happening.
