Okay, so we have been posting a lot of bridal portraits lately and I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk about bridal sessions, and the importance of them.
This is Holli’s moms bridal portrait that she has framed in her office. Isnt she pretty? It makes me realize the importance of the bridal session and the timeless look of them. Now if I could just get around to blogging the last 10 or so bridal shoots we have done this spring!
Holli wanted me (Taylor) to post my opinion about Bridal portraits, from a past bride’s perspective.
I personally I was not planning on having them done, but then it came with the wedding package I wanted, so I decided to do it and I was SOOO glad that I did. The day was so fun spent with my mom, aunt and friend.
Here are a few of the reasons I would say that bridal portraits are important:
• It gives you a test run at everything for the wedding day. You are able to get your makeup and hair done just perfectly before the day of. (We have had more than a few brides get their hair done for bridal portraits and they absolutely HATED it. – This would have been a catastrophe on wedding day, but it was just a learning experience on her bridal portrait day.)
• My grandmother was making my bridal bouquet, so it was an extra day for her to practice!
• It is another opportunity to practice putting on your dress and getting it just perfect. My dress laced up and it took my mom a while to get all the laces just perfect, so she appreciated being able to practice once again. And it was a great feeling to know that I could still fit in my dress. I know alot of brides worry about that as the wedding gets closer.
• It is a fun day for you to spend with your mom (or friends or whoever you want). My mom and I had a great time together, laughing and playing. I loved the way she looked at me all day!
• Many brides like to blow up a photo and put it at the reception. I just love this. Who doesn’t love a 16X20 framed picture of themselves in a beautiful dress?
• Some brides like to print some of these photos to give as a gift to their parents or to their husband-to-be.
• We have had a few brides print their bridal portraits in books to give their mom – this is a great gift idea.
• It is just such a fun day to play in your dress. Especially if you go for a unique or creative location. I walked through downtown OKC in my wedding dress on a Monday afternoon and I loved all the compliments!
• Most brides only wear their wedding dress on their wedding day – what a shame! Those dresses are BEAUTIFUL and can be very expensive. You should wear that thing whenever you can! (If any of you girls ever want to put your dress back on and go walk around town, give me a call, I’ll be there in mine!- Just ask Holli)
• You can try things you may not be able to on your wedding day. Many brides wear funky shoes or fun hair accessories! We just get to mess with some props: dogs, umbrellas, really anything you want.
• Plus you get to hang out with us! We really do try to make it tons of fun.
Another alternative that some brides choose is to do something TOTALLY different than wedding day. They might wear their hair completely funky and fun, wear super hot makeup and fun jewelry. Go for a ultra sassy glam look. We have even had some brides where a completely different dress, like their mother’s wedding dress.
The best part about Bridals – is that it is YOUR day and you can do whatever you want! We are always up for new and exciting places or ideas. Get creative. At the end of the day, you have had tons of fun playing in your wedding dress and you have lots of beautiful pictures of yourself! Who knows maybe your kids will end up with one years later, framed in their office, like Holli! You do not want them to miss out on that opportunity!
We have found some really neat places to shoot bridals at lately, so get excited! We can’t wait to see you in your beautiful dress.
